Functional rhinoplasty
1. How can nasal surgery help my breathing? Many rhinoplasty (nasal surgery) patients present with complaints of snoring, mouth breathing, difficulty breathing during exercise and even recurrent sinus infections. Anatomical deformities like a deviated septum, an old nasal fracture, or weak nasal cartilage can contribute to the sensation of nasal obstruction. Functional rhinoplasty can treat nasal obstruction by correcting specific nasal deformities. 2. Can rhinoplasty change the shape of my nose and correct my breathing? With the goal of improving nasal function while improving nasal appearance, functional rhinoplasty can be achieved simultaneously with cosmetic rhinoplasty. Many maneuvers which serve to correct anatomical deformities improve the overall aesthetic balance of the nose while restoring nasal patency. 3. What can be done to make my nose appear less flat? The nasal dorsum can be improved through augmentation rhinoplasty. By building up the height of the bridge, the nose can look more refined. This can be accomplished with implants that are synthetic or by using cartilage from the patient’s body. 4. Is there a way to make my tip not look so round? There are several methods for improving the definition of the nasal tip. Often combinations of suturing the patient’s tip cartilage, removing excess fatty tissue and implementing tip grafts using cartilage from the patient’s ear are used. 5. How long does it take to recover from rhinoplasty? Typically, patients wear a cast for a week. Most of the bruising and swelling are gone after two weeks. However, it takes at least a year to recover completely from rhinoplasty. In revision cases and patients with very thick skin, the recovery can take longer. Ask Question, Get Your Answer
