At the Workhouse, a spirited collaboration between Poet and Artist has evolved into Poetic Art! Poetic Art, the heart and soul of the artistic experience presented as language and visual imagery. Our annual Turkish Festival offers a full day of free activities that range from lively folk dancing and musical performances to arts and crafts activities for children and adults. Visitors also enjoy other much-loved aspects of Turkey such as its delicious cuisine, tradition of coffee fortune reading, and bustling Bazaar.

Great Pumpkin Fun in Alexandria


WE KEEP NO PROCEEDS FROM this annual fundraiser that benefits mainly local charities, including Network Preschool, ALIVE, Carpenter's Shelter, and many more. We also sell jewelry for the Montana's Crow Indians, and all proceeds go to them. Autumn crafts and cookies, brownies, cake, candy, hearty soups, gourds, mini pumpkins, Indian corn and cornstalks are also available, as well as (sometimes hot) apple crisp pies, all made from locally grown apples. In 2009 we grossed over $93,000 and GAVE AWAY OVER $46,000, placing 5th in all 1300 churches and 47 states. Children Welcome, Pets Welcome.

Fall Festival in Old Town Historic Fairfax

This traditional Fall Festival in the heart of the City of Fairfax is full of unique and interesting crafts & gifts with stalls and activities from local art groups and businesses will fill the streets of downtwon City of Fairfax. More than 400 juried crafters, childrens rides, music and foods will provide something to entertain everyone. This year the Festival Stage will feature smash hits from "The Legwarmers - The Ultimate 80's Band". Come and enjoy a traditional day out with all the family.

Wonders of Science

Investigate the wonders of 18th century science! See demonstrations by Project Enlightenment, McLean High School's historical reenactment society, as they conduct scientific demonstrations, which are certain to expand visitors' knowledge about science in the 1700s. Explore the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary, a family-run business for over 100 years, and be awed a large variety of curious objects, from poison bottles to dragon's blood. Tours last approximately one hour. $6 per person. Reservations recommended. Children Welcome

Sixth Annual Air and Scare- A Halloween Event for All Ages

Discover the strange and spooky side of aviation and space at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center's Sixth Annual Air and Scare. Hear stories about bugs in space, flying animals, and androids. Meet your favorite Star Wars and Star Trek characters. Watch R2D2 demonstrate its capabilities. Take control of a creepy-crawly robot and a Mars rover. Create a spider finger puppet, a Halloween glider, witch rocket and other items to take home. There will also be face painteres, stroy tellers, free simulator rides and activities just for tots. Admission is free but there is a $15 fee per car to park in the parking lot.

World of the Horse

Once again, on Sunday, October 31, at approx. 2 pm, the Washington International will present Washington's World of the Horse, a one-hour celebration of horses in all their beauty and variety. Featuring a selection of exciting horses events that may include dressage, driving, Saddlebreds, barrel racing, jumping, sidesaddle, Friesians, miniature horses, polo, the U.S. Park Police Mounted Patrol and lots more, this fast-paced, family-friendly event is enjoyable both to those new to horses and old hands around the barn.
